Day 25
“And he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mount of God.” -1 Kings 19:8
Fort days and forty nights is a long time to go on water alone. I’m certain the “experts” would say “you can’t!” Well. They have no clue what they’re talking about. The longer I go into this fast, the more I see and hear what the “experts” have to say, the more it becomes clear that the masses have been duped. The “experts” themselves have been duped by their own hubris. I have been duped for most of my life in many areas, and likely still am in some. Don’t listen to the “experts.” Their certificates and degrees mean nothing compared to real world experience.
I mentioned Jezebel back on day 13. She comes into play here again. The prophet Elijah is fleeing Jezebel in this passage. In the previous chapter Elijah had killed 450 false prophets of Baal. Elijah prayed that God show the people that He is the true God. God did just that by sending “the fire of the Lord” which struck the false prophets’ false offering and consumed it. Then the people believed and Elijah ordered them to seize the prophets. Then Elijah slaughtered them all. Jezebel, the queen, wanted Elijah’s head for this.
So, he fled. Which brings us to the desert where Elijah has been on the for a couple days. An angel visits him and brings him bread and water. The angel insists a few times that Elijah eat because the journey ahead will require much energy. Elijah then embarks on a journey to Mount Horeb. Estimates hold that from where Elijah was, it would have taken him about 14 days to get to Horeb, but it took him 40. Moses and the Israelites wandered in this same wilderness for 40 years.
Elijah now embarks on this 40 day journey sustained by the bread God had provided through the angel and would learn some of the same lessons. This is similar to how the Israelites received manna from the Lord every morning in the wilderness. So Elijah heads to Mount Horeb, which is also the place where God revealed Himself to Moses.
I know I have 15 days to go, but I already know that I could not have done even this long of a fast on my own. I have seen the Lord at work in my life during this time and in this fast. He has sustained me in every way. It has been an incredible experience. “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” -2 Corinthians 12:9
I am not a medical professional. This journal is about my spiritual path and about that which the Lord has placed on me. This is not medical advice, nor was this fast done for any medical purpose. If you have a medical interest, seek medical advice. If you have particular health concerns, seek medical advice and/or conduct your own research. Any fasting advice, effects, realizations or anything else related to my fast come from my personal reflection and experience. If you are considering fasting, consulting with a healthcare provider may be appropriate for you.
” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” -2 Corinthians 12:9. This speaks volumes.
& appropriately placed.

I very recently listened to a relatively new-to-me pastor. He is doing several sermons on faith, miracles of healing, etc. And he is telling the story of Jesus casting out the demon in a little boy suffering from seizures. The sermon explains in a new way the Matt 17:21 passage of "this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." I had always been taught "this kind" referred to "this kind [of demon]". But this pastor explained that the proper context is "this type [of unbelief] does not go out except by prayer and fasting." Really - this makes much more sense to me. And encourages me to start a practice of fasting, as well. I am still thinking on it. Thoughts?
