I was sent to church when I was a child, and vacation Bible school, where we were instructed to memorize Psalm 23, thankfully. I knew my parents weren't coming to church but the lady that Mom took us to was God fearing and I didn't care that they didn't come. No idea what they spent that time doing but I'm grateful to have been shown God's Word, if, for them, only to be free from us for a while.
With that being said, I never received instruction on fasting in a Holy sense. However, now 60, I am finding Joy in His Word and fasting is giving me added moments in His Word.
I really enjoy hearing from those of you who are reading these posts. I also didn't receive teaching or instruction on fasting. Through this fast, and it didn't take long, it became very clear that this is yet another glaring failure of the comfortable Christian life the church has had in the west. If it ever was mentioned, it was always, "don't talk about it!!! Do it in secret!!! Don't be like a Pharisee!!!" I think that's a comfortable, convenient excuse. Which will be addressed further as the 40 days continue to tick by.

I love & believe all these verses you’ve shared, especially Isaiah 58:6 which led me to read all of Isaiah chapter 58, titled TRUE FASTING in my NIV version. If we fast with humility & a pure heart, if we draw near & call to the Lord, He will answer and guide & strengthen us. Amen & Amen !

A fantastic chapter isn't it!!! So much in Isaiah. I've found myself in it many times in the last few years
