Thx Garret, I love everything about this excellent article! We do have the answer to WHy?…..……to bring Glory to GOD! that’s good enuf for me 💙 you & Heidi are living modern day “Job” examples to believers & more importantly to unbelievers ! “TRUST & OBEY for there’s no other way”…… you know the song. 🙏 for YOU Garret
Appreciate your thoughts, as always! I’m writing a short devotional and this is one of the issues I had to tackle. “For God’s glory” is the best answer I’ve seen.🙌🏻🙏🏻
I had just seen a picture of the late "great" Steve Jobs. I began to reflect on the dirtbags running silicon valley, especially Apple's replacement ceo, and the utūb & facebook dorky insurrectionists.
Before reading this, I mentioned in chat of TKSS a reference of Job in context of you. I certainly recognize the correlation. I have been through my own Job journey & have to say you nailed it. I was blessed to never ask why as that would only add to the trial. Perhaps that was beyond necessity for me.(?)
I have said many times the "Suspendables" so far have similarities of integrity, but also individual contributing differences that strengthen the whole. Yours is quite apparent. As in my experience you are bringing others to or strengthening some in Christ. We are tools of God even before we are aware. I assure you, you are firmly on the intended path. Godspeed, Rose
When you talk about God giving permission to Satan, it made me think that maybe the point about the book of Job isn't about Job. The events of the book of Job should have been a powerful reminder to Satan that God is in control. It is also a lesson to Satan and us that even fallible mere mortals can defeat Satan.
I love the "Job's friends" theme. It is tough and frustrating to have well-meaning friends try to comfort you with a platitude like, "It's all part of God's plan".
Over the decades my understanding of Job has changed and hopefully matured. There was a time when I related to Job because I felt I was suffering so badly and I drew strength seeing Job ultimately prevail. There may be some validity to that but it is really a self-centered understanding. It's not about me or Job, it is about God. I think when you experience real suffering, the kind of suffering when you are utterly broken and don't want to go on anymore, you develop a new perspective on Job.
The thing that continues to bother me and is unresolved for me about Job is his first 10 children. They were humans with souls, not pieces of property as it seems. God loved them and presumably they were blameless (outside the context that we all deserve death) yet God snuffed out these ten children. You can argue that Job and even his wife grew in their faith and trust in God at the end of the story. The same can't be said for the ten dead children. Chalking it up to the sovereignty of God seems inadequate and leaves me wanting to know why :)
